Great White Shark Diving Isla de Guadalupe, Mexico - Oct. 31-Nov. 4, 2006

After a rather nauseating 22 hour boat trip from San Diego, I finally make it to Guadalupe Island off the west coast of the Baja Peninsula. This is one of the best places in the world to witness Great White Sharks reliably in the wild. There was already a shark circling the dive boat before the cages were even placed in the water and over the next 3 days we witnessed numerous individual Great Whites as they followed our chum line and went in for the hanging tuna heads that were set up as bait.

These are truly remarkable creatures, appearing and disappearing like ghosts in the water as they would swim in for a closer look. There were many times when the sharks were close enough that I could almost reach out and grab one of their fins (Although I don't recommend it). The largest shark we saw was about 16 feet long, it was kind of like having a bus coming at you in the water. On the last dive day there were two huge females taking turns patrolling the cages and I had to be very aware not to hang out of the gaps in the cage.
